CRITICAL STRESS TRAUMA
Critical stress arises from a traumatic incident wherein an individual confronts a threat to their life or well-being or is involved in an event jeopardizing another person's life or safety. The impact on survivors is intricately linked to the severity, inescapability, uncontrollability, and unexpectedness of the traumatic event, often surpassing one's coping mechanisms and natural defenses. Following such an event, survivors may immediately grapple with extreme exhaustion, insomnia, nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive images, numbness, feelings of disconnection, agitation, impaired focus, concentration difficulties, depression, and anxiety or panic. While these reactions are normal and anticipated, they can progressively become more impairing over time if left untreated. Recognizing and addressing these symptoms is crucial for a survivor's well-being and the path toward healing.
